Chef Hats
7 Oct
Today’s project was to make paper Chef Hats. Both of the kids were really excited about this and there was a lot of cheering as they picked out their supplies. The only items you need are: construction paper, tissue paper, scissors and glue. (oh and some crayons/markers to decorate your creation!)
My Kids Make chef hats, and yours can too! See how ours turned out and try it yourself:
First I measured the kids heads, and then we cut a 3″ x (child’s head size) piece of construction paper. Silas cut out a 3″ x 21″ strip just to give you an idea. We had to glue two sections of paper together to make one big strip. They both chose the colors, and Silas did the cutting for his own.
After the glue dried on the strip, the kids decorated their hats
Then they picked out colored tissue paper. Fold the tissue paper in half, then in half again, making a square. Cut the ends off so that when the tissue paper is opened it will be a large circle.
Next is the only tricky part. Glue the edges of the circle tissue paper to the top – inside on the strip of construction paper. Scrunch the paper as you go to give the hat that typical poofy look. We layed the strip down on the table, then glued all along the top inside edge. Then I held the strip and moved it along while Silas grabbed the tissue paper and glued it down. Once we got started it wasn’t as hard as i thought it was going to be.
Once all the tissue is attached, glue the strip together and let the hat dry.
My kids love their hats and were excited to wear them. When we baked something later in the day they both went running for their new hats.
Let me know how yours turn out!
