Superhero Cape

19 Jan

Silas wanted a cape. Not, so much, because he is really into superheroes. More, because he wanted to spin in circles and have something fly around with him. Here he is spinning and zooming around the living room. We made this project without having to buy anything, and both of the kids helped. Seriously.

My Kids Make a Superhero Cape, and yours can too! Find out how, then make one!!!!

This project comes straight from the book “Generation T: Beyond Fashion”.  The cape it self requires NO SEWING!

We found an old adult sized t-shirt and deemed it perfect for this project. The directions explain how to cut the t-shirt to easily make it into a cape.  It really was only a few steps.

Silas and I decided to add the red “S” on the back. That was the only sewing involved.  I had some scrap fabric that happened to be red {his favorite color} so I cut out a large “S”. Then, Silas, Sydney and I took turns sewing the letter onto the cape.

The finished product is both FUN and ECONOMICAL.  We already had the t-shirt. We already had the material to make the letter “S”. And now we have a cape!

UPDATE: I ended up cutting the neck vertically and then sewing on corresponding velcro strips to both sides. I felt this was a little safer, and made it easier for Silas to take the cape on/off.

Silas can now run and zoom and spin all he wants. And his cape goes with him.

~Got kids who would love a cape too?  Send me pictures of your cuties in their superhero cape!
