T-Shirt Pillow

12 Jan

A while back, Silas learned how to sew with a needle/thread and the first thing he made was a pillow for one of his stuffed animal dogs.  Apparently, this caused jealousy amongst the stuffed animal community in his room, and his other dog really needed a pillow too.  I picked out a few old t-shirts from Silas’ collection and let him choose which one he wanted to use as the pillow cover.   It all came together very easily actually, thanks to a pillow form I already had laying around.  Harmony was restored to the stuffed animal community, as Silas finished his t-shirt pillow in no time at all!

My Kids Make a T-Shirt Pillow, and yours can too! Find out how:

Silas selected an old t-shirt that he wanted to use.

I had an extra pillow form already in the house, so I placed it inside the t-shirt to get an idea for the size.  Then, I cut the arms and the neck off the shirt.  {You could also use pillow stuffing here, and make the pillow what ever size you wanted}.

Using a t-shirt made this project not only fast, but easy for Silas to do.  Since we left the sides intact, he only had to sew the top and bottom pieces (and a small section in each of the arms). He was happy that he didn’t have to sew all 4 sides!  It worked the best if I held the fabric together for him, and he just focused on getting the needle in/out.

And here it is: the T-Shirt Pillow {and the dogs}:

Silas was really excited that he could actually make a pillow and that he did all the sewing himself.  We did have to take some breaks in there, but really it didn’t take that long!

Super job making the pillow Silas.
Your dogs look so comfy on the new pillow.
Daddy Dog looks just like Abby when she’s lying on her pillow.

Abby really likes the picture you made for her.
I put it on the wall just above her water bowl.
