Topsy Turvy Dinner

Looking for a fun dinner idea?  Want a way to get the whole family interested and EXCITED about dinner? Looking for something to have for dinner on a weekend besides Pizza?  Then you need to have a “Topsy Turvy Dinner”.  We have this every once in a while, and the KIDS LOVE IT!! In fact, we had it last night. And it was fantastic!

My Kids Make a “Topsy Turvy Dinner” and yours can too! Confused? Read on……

The idea behind a Topsy Turvy Dinner is quite simple: Go to the store and let everyone pick out ONE item they want to have for dinner. Just one.  Even if its a condiment.  Even if it doesnt seem like a full dinner can be had with the random selections of your family members. Just go with it. Go to the store all together as a family, let each person have their turn selecting their special item.  Then, when you get home, cook/prepare the items together.

At dinner time, it really is fun to see all the random foods laying out together. To hear your kids say, “My _____ is SO good”, “Do you like what I picked?”.  We share all the foods together {so that one person isn’t stuck eating an entire can of olives for dinner, and to make it more of a communal gathering}.

Want to know what we had for our Topsy Turvy Dinner last night?

  • Black Olives
  • Seasoned French Fries
  • Roasted Red Pepper Hummus
  • Kielbasa

The kids always love when we have Topsy Turvy Dinner, and I kind of do too. There is an excitement about it as you search the aisles for your ONE item.  There is a fun energy at the table as everyone samples the fare. We laugh and talk and have a lot of fun on Topsy Turvy night.

    I agree, that is the best / cutest picture of Sydney.

    Silas: keilbasa
    Sydney: black olives
    Becky: hummus (not for protein, just cause I LOVE hummus)
