Pen Pals and Letter Writing
14 Mar

In this age of emails and text messages, the pencil and paper are often overlooked. Remember the days of a hand written note? Or, how about the days of a “pen pal”, when you wrote to your friend and eagerly awaited a letter back from them in the mailbox?
I say let’s bring back the” pen pals” folks. Dig out the notebooks, gather the pencils and erasers, because the “pen pal” is back.
My Kids Make “Pen Pals”, and yours can too! Get some paper and start working on your letter.
Silas has been writing letters to some friends near and far and has been really enjoying it. Honest. For those whose kids aren’t writing {or reading} on their own, here’s a note for you: neither is my son. I helped him spell out every word he wrote. Yes, it is slow going. But he was SO excited to mail a letter to his cousins that he didn’t notice how long it took him. {Have an alphabet book nearby to help your child if they get stuck remembering how to write certain letters}.
Try making a whole event out of the letter writing: fix a snack, pour some hot cocoa, and even take a trip to the post office to send off the letter. It can actually make your kids want to write! Gasp!
Want to share your letters with everyone? Scan them and email them to me. I will happily display all the hard work!
~Enjoy

Love it! I’ve seen a few posts on writing letters with kids lately, it seems to be on everyone’s agenda.
I’m going to email you a letter that my 4yo wrote to Santa back in December. We posted it (of course) but I wish I’d kept it. She really put so much effort into it – I would love to have it for posterity!
Thanx for visiting my site! How funny that we both wrote about the lost art of letter writing in the same week! Love your article!
I’ll have to come back and visit your blog when I have some more time! Looks like you have some good stuff on here! Thanx again!
